As of September 2007 Velcom has more than 2.77 million subscribers in Belarus. Its current (As of September, 2007) license portfolio covers territory where 95% of Belarusian population reside. Velcom was founded in 1999 and initially operated GSM-900 network in Minsk area. Velcom is 70% owned by mobilkom Austria and 30% owned by Cypriot firm Samauwi Brothers (SB) Telecom. Velcom's main competitor is Mobile TeleSystems.
