La Clinica Esperanza

DESCRIPTION:Five day clinics held at the elementary school in Atima each June, with 2500 - 3100 patient visits per year (23,000 totals), predominantly for healthy "check-ups," musculoskeletal complaints, URI symptoms and GI complaints. All children ages 1-10 are dewormed with pyrantel pamoate, and any others symptomatic with parasites. Health education teaching sessions are held for groups as they wait to be seen, covering water purification, oral rehydration for diarrhea, tooth brushing. "Goody bags" for each family with vitamins, toiletries, toothbrushes and health-education materials have been distributed.
