Hôpital Albert Schweitzer DESCRIPTION: Hôpital Albert Schweitzer (HAS) is a model for health care facilities in developing countries around the world. An integrated rural health system, HAS provides medical care and community health and development programs for more than 300,000 impoverished people in the Artibonite Valley of central Haiti. Visiting medical professionals from North America and abroad work with a permanent Haitian staff of almost 550. Financial support comes from partner organizations and private individuals around the world.

New Aids Clinic DESCRIPTION:A new clinic in Jeremie, Haiti is supplying free anti-retroviral drugs for HIV-positive patients. In 2004 alone, between 25,000 and 34,000 Haitians died of AIDS, and about 200,000 Haitian children are infected with the virus. This is the second of 14 HIV/AIDS treatment sites in Haiti that are opening in 2005 with support from the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Agency for International Development.
