DESCRIPTION: Dr. Ramin Ahmadi traveled to East Timor to help establish an outpatient care clinic that provides care to hundreds of malaria and tuberculosis patients a day.
Bairo Pite Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Bairo Pite Clinic is located near the centre of Dili and is staffed by an American doctor, Dr Dan Murphy, about 45 Timorese staff, and visiting overseas volunteers. The majority of the work at the clinic is seeing outpatients, and Dr Dan sees on average 300 to 400 patients per day. The clinic also has 10 inpatient beds, most commonly for patients with malaria, gastroenteritis or respiratory tract infections. In addition there are 12 beds reserved for TB patients requiring inpatient management, and 4 maternity beds.
Artificial Eye Clinic
DESCRIPTION:A temporary artificial eye can be made using photographs of the person’s face. The process is not ideal, but in circumstances such as in East Timor, there’s no choice. At least these people aren’t missing out on something they might have needed or wanted for quite some time.
