The Bank of Slovenia is the central bank of the Republic of Slovenia. It was established by the Bank of Slovenia Act, which was adopted on 25 June 1991. The bank was established in 1978 as Stanovanjsko-Komunalna Banka, a mortgage subsidiary of Ljubljanska Banka, specialising in housing loans to individuals and enterprises and the financing of municipal construction. Independence of the bank followed in 1990 with the transformation to a joint-stock company, an abbreviation of the name to SKB Banka (SKB), and the formation of a new strategy as a general commercial bank.

Postna Banka Slovenije  
Poštna banka Slovenije was established by the former Slovenian PTT organisations. The Bank started operations on 1 July 1992, immediately after Poštna hranilnica Beograd had been shut down.


Volksbank Ljudska Banka  
The bank balance increased by 17% and at the end of 2006 it reached SIT 116 billion (EUR 485 million). The largest contributor was the 37% increase in credit portfolio to non-banks which at the end of the year was already SIT 86 billion (EUR 360 million). The pre tax profit for the business year was SIT 269 million (EUR 1.1 million), after the calculation of deferred taxes the bank noted a clear profit of SIT 169.6 million (EUR 0.7 million).
