The Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS) was established on January 1, 1983 when it took over the functions and responsibilities of the Seychelles Monetary Authority. The currency commission was set up under the Seychelles Currency Act of 1974 to manage the currency issues and functioned like any other currency board, with the Treasury acting as agent.
