Bugema University is located on a 640-acre piece of land in Luwero district, Bamunanika county, Kalagala sub-county. The institution started in 1948 as a training school for teachers and pastors for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in East Africa. By then it was called Bugema Missionary Training School. Later, the name changed to Bugema Missionary College and then to Bugema Adventist College.

Busoga University is a private (non-profit making) institution founded by the Church of Uganda under the Busoga Diocese It is located at Iganga CMS educational village, 32km along the Jinja-Tororo Highway.

The University was started as a mission project in February 2000 by Dr. John Veldhuis, a volunteer in mission of the Anglican Church of Canada. The university fills the need for higher education for qualified students, teachers and clergy. In turn, the graduates of Central Buganda University provide education to the rural people, allowing them to escape the cycle of poverty so prevalent in the area

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY IN UGANDA was established in 1988 by the Organisation of Islamic Conference to serve the English Speaking African Muslim community in Southern and Eastern Africa. Starting with 80 students and a single campus at Mbale (Uganda), the university now boasts of 2 campuses and a study centre.
