UNIVERSITIES LIBERIA Cuttington University College Cuttington University College, located 120 miles north of Monrovia, is the oldest private, coeducational, four-year, degree-granting institution in sub-Saharan Africa. It issues degrees in the liberal arts and a number of technical studies. It has educated generations of leaders for the nation of Liberia and indeed for West Africa. Adam Smith University Adam Smith University was accredited by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Liberia on October 8, 2001. Since December 2007, Adam Smith University has not been offering any instruction or degrees in Liberia. In France, Adam Smith University is an association designated by the French National Ministry of Education as a private institution of Higher Education by correspondence under the Law of 12 July 1875 and under the Decree of 25 January 1876 to offer higher education to national and international students. University of Liberia The University of Liberia was established in 1862 as Liberia College and became a University in 1951. UL as the oldest degree-granting institution in West Africa - has trained leaders of state, church, industry, and commerce for Liberia and other African countries. During Africa's colonial period, the university provided higher education for many Africans for whom such education was unavailable in the colonies, and continued during postcolonial times.
