Bar-Ilan University is the second largest university in Israel, with a student population of approximately 24,500 at the main campus in Ramat Gan, and at the four regional colleges operating under its auspices – in the Jordan Valley, in Safed, in the western Galilee and in Ashkelon. The university regards the sacred principles of Judaism as the manifestation of the Jewish people's uniqueness, in accordance with the principles defined upon its establishment. Ben-Gurion University of the Negev
Ben-Gurion University of the Negev was established with the aim to spearhead the development of the Negev, a desert area comprising more than sixty percent of the country. The University was inspired by the vision of Israel's first prime minister David Ben-Gurion, who believed that the future of the country lay in this region. Today, Ben-Gurion University is a major center for teaching and research, with over 17,000 students enrolled in the faculties of Engineering Sciences, Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, the Guilford Glazer School of Business and Management and the Kreitman School of Advanced Graduate Studies. Hebrew University of Jerusalem
The dream of establishing a "University of the Jewish People" in the Land of Israel formed an integral part of the early Zionist vision. With the acquisition of the Gray Hill estate atop Mount Scopus, and the laying of the cornerstone for the university-to-be in 1918, the realization of the dream was on its way. Seven years later, on April 1, 1925, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem was opened at a festive ceremony attended, among others, by leaders of world Jewry including the University's founding father, Dr. Chaim Weizmann, distinguished academics and communal leaders of the Yishuv, and British dignitaries including Lord Balfour, Viscount Allenby and Sir Herbert Samuel. The First Board of Governors of the University, chaired by Dr. Weizmann, included such luminaries as Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Martin Buber, Harry Sacher and Felix M. Warburg as well as leading men of letters, religious and academic figures of international renown. The University's first three research institutes - in microbiology, chemistry and Jewish studies - had 33 faculty members and 141 students. In 1931, the University awarded its first degrees, the Master of Arts, to 13 graduates. By 1947, the University had grown to a large, well-established research and teaching institution, encompassing humanities, science, medicine, education and agriculture (the last at a campus in Rehovot); the Jewish National and University Library; a University press; and an adult education center. Student enrollment exceeded 1,000 and there were some 200 faculty members.

Open University of Israel
Distance teaching and the self-study method, developed specifically for the Open University, provides conditions that meet the constraints of individuals who work, raise a family, manage a household or serve in the military. The method is not space- or time-dependent as it is not based on a central campus where lecturers and students gather, or on an established and uniform schedule. Courses offered by the Open University are fundamentally different from courses offered at other Universities. The customary image of a course - a classroom with a teacher on the podium facing a group of students - does not apply to the Open University, or only partially. A course at the Open University is first and foremost a printed scholarly or scientific work: one or more volumes written and produced especially for Open University students. Thus, learning at the Open University is first of all self-study from written material and not sitting and listening to a lecture
Shenkar School of Engineering & Design
Shenkar College of Engineering and Design was founded in 1970, with the goal of serving Israeli industry in all that relates to academic qualifications and R&D services for modern industries. Shenkar is an institute of higher education and, like all the public universities in Israel, is supervised and financed by the Israeli Council for Higher Education. Shenkar offers degree courses in all the subjects studied. Tuition fees are in line with the fees charged by Israeli universities. Shenkar's uniqueness as an academic institution lies in the close ties between the two faculties: the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Design . While both the faculties maintain their own special character, they operate joint projects, designed to expose the students to various disciplines. Technion - Israel Institute of Technology
Historic Building (presently the Israel National Museum of Science, Technology and Space, Daniel and Matilde Recanati Center). The Technion moved to its present location on Mount Carmel in 1953. In operation since 1924, the Technion is the oldest university in Israel. Since its founding, the institute has educated three generations of men and women who have played a key role in laying the country’s infrastructure and establishing its crucial defense and high-tech industries. In the new millennium, Technion’s role at the forefront of the global network of science and technology has never been more vital. Tel Aviv University
Tel Aviv University came into being through the dedicated efforts of visionaries who foresaw the need for an additional university in Israel’s rapidly growing central region. In the 1930s, the idea was promoted by then mayor of Tel Aviv, Meir Dizengoff, with whose encouragement two post-secondary education facilities were opened during the British Mandate period: The Biological-Pedagogical Institute and the School of Law and Economics. 1950’s: The Early Years After the establishment of the State, Haim Levanon, Deputy Mayor of Tel Aviv in the early 1950s and mayor from 1953-59 energetically campaigned for the founding of a second Israeli university in Tel Aviv. Although not without opponents, the idea was eventually realized on August 16, 1953, when the Municipal Council of Tel Aviv-Jaffa decided to transform the Biological-Pedagogical Institute into the Academic Institute of Natural Sciences, under the leadership of Prof. Heinrich Mendelssohn, which would “form the core of a future university.” It was located at the Abu Kabir campus in southern Tel Aviv, and had 24 students in its first year.

IDC Herzliya is now in its second decade of activity. Over IDC Herzliya's first decade our schools and research institutes have won renown internationally. University of Haifa
The campus of the University of Haifa spreads along a Carmel Mountain ridge southeast of the city of Haifa and is surrounded by the Carmel National Park. The University was established in 1963 under the joint auspices of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Haifa Municipality. In 1972, it gained academic accreditation as a separate institution from the Council for Higher Education. The University of Haifa is the most pluralistic institution of higher education in Israel: sons and daughters of both veteran cities and development towns, kibbutzim and moshavim, new immigrants, Jews, Arabs, and Druzes, IDF officers and security personnel—all sitting together on the bench of knowledge in an atmosphere of coexistence, tolerance, and mutual respect. The University considers the link-up between academic excellence and social responsibility as its flagship, and service to the community as one of its important goals. Some 16,500 students are studying toward a degree (B.A., M.A., or Ph.D.) in 2005/06. The University offers six Faculties: Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences and Science Education, Law, Social Welfare and Health Studies, and Education. And five Schools: Business Administration, Social Work, History, Public Health, and Political Sciences.
