UNIVERSITIES HAITI American University of the Caribbean American University started as the dream of two people, Dr. Antonin A. Smrcka, a Czech-refugee, who made his way first to Canada and then to the United States as a participant in the higher education process, and Madame Solanges Smrcka, a native Haitian, who studied in Canada and became active in nursing, teaching, and public health administration in the United States and several African countries. We, at AUC, would personally like to welcome you to our learning community. It is our hope and prayer that by putting our hearts, hands and minds together we can build a better, stronger Haiti to the glory of God. Whether your an alumni, a future student, a potential donor or long-time friend of AUC, we want you to know that you are special to us. Your ideas and energy are what makes our family strong.
Universite de Fondwa The UNIF USA Foundation, Inc. was founded in February 2007 as a non-profit institution to support the development of the University of Fondwa 2004 (UNIF). As Haiti's first rural university, UNIF has the unique opportunity to bring higher education to Haiti's 565 rural communities and spur long-term economic development. With two classes of students coming from more than a dozen villages throughout the country, UNIF is already developing the agronomists, veterinarians, and managers of Haiti's future.
UNIVERSITÉ QUISQUEYA In Haiti, the informal sector provides employment for an estimated 70% of the population. A World Bank needs assessment for Haiti estimates that 95% of private employment is in the informal sector. The role of the private sector in meeting Haiti's major investment needs, however, remains negligible. As a result, bringing informal sector businesses into the formal sector is seen as critical to ensuring Haiti’s economic development and the establishment of a strong market economy. Doing so will require introducing informal sector businesses to accounting and auditing principles and practices, as sound accounting and auditing practices improve the business climate and make it more conducive to domestic and foreign investment, increase the access of small and medium businesses to financial resources, and help local businesses align their standards and practices with those of the country's main trade and investment partners
